Road closures planned as Leavenworth Marathon returns Oct. 3

Posted

LEAVENWORTH — Motorists traveling through Leavenworth should expect slowdowns, closures and heavier-than-usual foot traffic due to the Leavenworth Marathon Oct. 3.

According to event organizers, the Leavenworth Marathon starts at 7 a.m. near the top of Icicle Canyon. The route then follows the East Leavenworth Road from Icicle Road to US-2. The southbound lane of East Leavenworth Road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the northbound lane will stay open at all times. Runners will cross the Wenatchee River Bridge on US-2 and head toward downtown’s riverfront trails.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) urges travelers on US-2 to exercise caution from milepost 99 to 100.

Marathoners will eventually meet up with Icicle Road, running along the east side shoulder between US-2 and Sleeping Lady. The road will remain fully open to drivers.

A half marathon will start at 9 a.m. in Enchantment Park, resulting in a 30-minute closure of Enchantment Park Way starting at 8:45 a.m. Park access and parking will be restored to the public after the start of the race. Half marathon participants will be present along Enchantment Park Way to US-2, the sidewalk along US-2, Front Street and Ninth Street between 9-9:30 a.m., according to organizers.

Downtown Leavenworth’s Waterfront and Enchantment Park Trails will also see runners throughout the morning. Runners will be coming in from Commercial Street to Waterfront Park, then following the trail to Enchantment Park.

Both events will finish at Enchantment Park by 1 p.m.

The Leavenworth Marathon and Half Marathon are organized by TedDriven, a mission-driven endurance event organization. Since its founding in 2005, TedDriven has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars of event proceeds into cancer research and the support of local organizations. In 2025, it aligned with Fred Hutch Cancer Center to help advance long-term scientific innovation.
