Nola Juanita (Cook) Joyner

Nola J. Joyner died of natural causes Wednesday, May 1st, at Regency Harmony House in Brewster, Washington. She was born August 17, 1922, in Elmore City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Randolph and Willie Mae Cook. Nola graduated as salutatorian from Pernell High School in 1940.

She and Maurice G. Joyner were married in Pernell, Oklahoma, on July 11, 1940, and then traveled to the Chelan area where Maurice had attended high school. They worked in the local fruit industry and, as soon as they saved enough money, purchased a five-acre apple orchard. They later purchased five acres of apricot trees which they cut down and replaced with more apple trees. Nola was very involved with the orchard: thinning, picking, and packing apples while raising three children: Hershal, Gayle, and Roger. They attended the Little Stone Church until selling the orchard and moving to the Westport, Washington area to retire. They loved to travel the country in their RV.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, on June 4, 2013. She is survived by a daughter, N. Gayle Still of Monroe, WA, and two sons, Hershal (Karen) Joyner, of Manson, WA, and Roger (Ruth) Joyner of Brewster, WA; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at the Fraternal Cemetery, Chelan, WA at 1 p.m. Friday, May 10th Pastor Gordon Wright officiating. Viewing available at Precht Rose Chapel Chelan on Friday May 10th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m..
