Confluence Health honored by AMA, Forbes for promoting well-being of healthcare workers

WENATCHEE - Confluence Health has received double recognition for its unwavering commitment to the well-being of healthcare professionals. This acknowledgment comes from the American Medical Association (AMA) and Forbes, underlining the organization's efforts to support its clinical care teams.

Confluence Health was awarded the prestigious silver recognition from the American Medical Association as a Joy in Medicine™ recognized organization. This distinction is exclusively granted to organizations that meet the stringent criteria of the Joy in Medicine™ Health System Recognition Program. It signifies a dedication to combat work-related stress and burnout, thereby safeguarding the well-being of clinical care team members.

Additionally, Confluence Health gained recognition as one of "America's Best Employers By State" in Forbes' fifth annual list. Forbes partnered with Statista to conduct surveys involving 70,000 workers across the United States. The recognition is based on employee recommendations and assessments of workplace attributes such as compensation, growth potential, diversity, company image, and working conditions.

Katina Maier, Chief People and Strategy Officer for Confluence Health, emphasized the importance of supporting healthcare professionals. She stated, "Healthcare is a crucial industry, and it is important that we as an organization support and care for those who work so hard to support and care for our patients."

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly increased burnout rates among healthcare professionals nationwide, and Confluence Health recognizes the ongoing challenges stemming from work-related burnout. The organization has been at the forefront of efforts to provide a supportive workplace for its staff and providers, countering this national trend.

AMA President Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, M.D., M.P.H., applauded Confluence Health's commitment to the well-being of health professionals. He noted that organizations recognized by the Joy in Medicine Health System Recognition Program are leading a national movement that prioritizes the wellness of clinical care teams, ultimately benefiting patients, families, and communities.

The Joy in Medicine™ Health System Recognition Program, launched in 2019, has now recognized over 100 organizations across the United States. In 2023, 72 health systems earned recognition for their efforts to reduce work-related burnout and demonstrate competencies in commitment, assessment, leadership, efficient practice environments, teamwork, and support.

Christine Sinsky, M.D., AMA Vice President of Professional Satisfaction, highlighted the program's goal to build a nationwide culture committed to the well-being of clinical care teams.

Confluence Health takes various steps to ensure professional satisfaction and well-being. Initiatives to support physicians and advanced-practice providers are led by the Provider Experience Committee. The organization's employees benefit from the Confluence Health Employee Engagement and Recognition (CHEER) program, offering various activities and employee recognition. Additionally, opportunities for growth and training are provided by the Organizational and Leadership Development department. Confluence Health has also invested in developing certified nursing assistants and medical assistants through dedicated training programs and apprenticeships.
