CHELAN COUNTY — Preliminary results of the Nov. 3 election show overwhelming support for Sandra Arechiga over incumbent Marty Young in the Chelan County clerk race.

As of 8:33 p.m. Tuesday, Arechiga has received 53.64% (13,162 votes). Young, who was elected to the position in 2022, trails with 46.23% of the vote (11,343 votes).

Arechiga has 12 years of experience working for Chelan County Clerk’s Office; she spent six years as Jury administrator and currently serves as a Family Law Court Facilitator. She secured nearly 38% of the vote in the August primary, holding a 7.25% lead against Young.

In a statement to Ward Media, Arechiga said she was grateful for the support and confidence shown by residents throughout the campaign. She added that her goal is to shape an efficient and supportive office to provide “the highest quality of service” to residents.

“I believe in putting people at the center of our work, strengthening communication, and making the Clerk’s Office more accessible and responsive to the needs of our community. I am hopeful for the opportunity to serve the residents of Chelan County as their next County Clerk,” said Arechiga.

Young did not respond for immediate comment.

The County Clerk is the administrative and financial officer of Superior Court; the clerk position is an Executive branch position. As an independent elected official, the Clerk reserves for the public unrestrained access to a fair, accurate, and independently established record of the opinions, decisions, and judgments of the court, according to the Chelan County Clerk’s Office.

The elected candidate will serve a four-year term.

Ballots are still being tallied. The next updated count is expected 5 p.m. Wednesday.
