Wenatchee Valley DRC honors local peacebuilders at annual celebration

Posted

WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee Valley Dispute Resolution Center (WVDRC) brought together community members and leaders earlier this month to honor individuals promoting peace and understanding across Chelan and Douglas counties.

On Thursday, Oct. 2, the nonprofit organization hosted its 2025 Annual Celebration, Pathways to Peace, at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center. The event recognized volunteers and presented the 2025 Community Peacebuilder Award to two individuals whose work exemplifies collaboration and compassion — Reverend Debbie Sperry and Lance Noell.

Reverend Debbie Sperry, Senior Pastor at First United Methodist Church in Wenatchee, was honored for her commitment to fostering connection across diverse groups. Through respectful dialogue, empathy, and collaboration, she has helped build bridges that strengthen community trust and understanding.

Lance Noell, former principal of Eastmont High School, was recognized for his ongoing work with at-risk youth through the Eastmont Opportunities Program. His leadership focuses on helping students achieve both academic and personal success while fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect among students and families.

The annual event highlighted the essential role of community members in cultivating peace and unity in the region. The WVDRC also encouraged residents to consider nominating individuals, groups, or organizations for the 2026 Community Peacebuilder Award, which will be presented at next year’s celebration in October.

The Wenatchee Valley Dispute Resolution Center is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization serving Chelan and Douglas counties. The organization provides affordable mediation services, conflict resolution training, and community education, working alongside a team of volunteer mediators to promote peaceful conflict resolution.
